Woke up 1215 hours, after going to bed at 0100 hours. Learned Iraqis were conducting suicide bombings. Bunch of bastards are ignoring the Geneva Conventions. They're trying to get us to shoot civilians (seeing that they are dressed as civilians and act like civilians), and make us look like the "bad guys", which is far from the case. You don't like that opinion? Kiss my ass. ICQ #110585444 if you wanna debate the point INTELLIGENTLY, not like these stupid peace protesters.
Did 2 pages of my 5 page history paper. Took maybe a half hour, tops, with distractions. The rest should be finished by Wednesday, hopefully. Its due on April 7th. Went out to supper with my folks to O'Connors. The best restaurant...EVER. Then went to Best Buy and bought Dune, the 4.5 hour version. I plan to watch it as soon as I bring my laundry up (5 minutes from now). Thursday, March 27, 2003
Ok, I had the calc exam at 1400 hours. It wasn't bad. 4 questions, 25 points each. The exam was worth 20% of my grade (making every question worth 5% of my grade). I had trouble on #2, 3, AND 4. Until I realized I was being stupid on 2 and 3 (got those, almost sure I was right). For #4, it depends on if I did a derivative correctly. If not, I hope he gives partial credit, because I did out EVERY little step and explained it.
Now to go off to study for the oscillations exam tomorrow. Tuesday, March 25, 2003
Alright. I'm sorta pissed. Not only does one of our party members for D&D not show up at all for the past week (and so we can't play...), the DM is going to cancel our campaign (not exactly his fault...running two campaigns at once is sort of hard, especially with schoolwork). I'm pissed because I was given a chance to play, but will not be able to play again for a long time. Oh well...Ron, I hope you're working on a good thing, seeing as you're most likely going to be the DM if we ever play over the summer.
Now that the Iraqis are fake surrendering, then shooting our troops (blatant break of the Geneva Conventions), and that they are using civilian buildings to launch military attacks (also against Geneva Conventions), and dressing as noncombatants (yet another violation of the Geneva Conventions), I guess we're still the bad guys, eh?
Alright...I'll admit it for the first time ever...I'm screwed (academically). I have an exam Thursday in Calculus, and one on Friday on Oscillations and Waves. Not exactly the most friendly combination. I haven't studied yet. Here's my probable study plan (damn classes at 1600 really gets in the way of doing stuff):
1300-1400: Physics Conference 1400-1500: Calculus Lecture 1500-1600: Calculus Homework 1600-1700: History Lecture 1700-1800: Supper 1800-1900: Study Calculus 1900-2000: Study Physics 2000-2200: Dungeons and Dragons 2200-0000: Mixture of studying, relaxing, and maybe go to bed "early". There will be a pro-war rally on Wednesday, 1300-1500, 1700-1900. I will, in all likelihood, attend. Friday night: GET BLASTED!!! :-p Just kidding. I dont' drink. Probably go bowl 10 pin with Russ and Owen, then come back and watch a movie, and THEN get blasted. Sunday, March 23, 2003
I just tweaked my Dungeons and Dragons character, as he was a bit unfinished. His name? Kaelan Amril, Elven Ranger. Speaks Common, Elven, Sylvan, Orcish, and Terran. His lowest ability score is 14 (don't ask me how...I used a computer program to create him). My feats are Dodge, Point Blank Shot, and Track. If you didn't notice from the "Point Blank Shot" feat, I am an archer (with a longsword in tow just in case). It is almost impossible for me to miss something (so far...) with my bow. Kaelan is aspiring to be an Elven Bowmaster.
HP: 12 AC: 18 (19 if I use my Dodge feat effectively); I've been hit only once, when we were ambushed from behind. Nailed the bastard to a wall with an arror (straight into his chest). On a secondary note, my respect for protesters just went to subzero levels after a floormate sent out a list of reasons why this war shouldn't happen, and he put to a link to a website made by an Islamic gentleman in the Middle East. Not only could I disprove everything the man wrote, I could use Sky News, BBC, and other non-biased sources to do it. I am not falling for anti-war propaganda, thank you very much. I'm going to start doing some reading for my history reading right now. See all of you folks later. Actually, let me make a point first. Yes, I am pro-war. I have nothing against anti-war protesters (a few of them are my friends). I only have something against those who come up with retarded arguments like "we're targeting babies on purpose!" and the like. Other than that I support them in their protests, for they are upholding one of our, if not the, greatest rights: Freedom of Speech. I disagree with their actions to try and hinder the war effort, though (flooding the White House with calls, e-mails, etc., blocking traffic, etc.). They want the troops to come home alive and well? Don't do stuff. Demonstrate peacefully, don't be disruptive. Friday, March 21, 2003
Ok, I am not quite convinced that some war protesters are brain dead. First off: "Support our troops, bring them home!" is RETARDED. Soldiers have one job and only one job: to wage war. How can you support soldiers, yet oppose a war? How can you support soldiers, yet want them home. It should be "Support our troops, let them fight!".
#2: Yellow ribbons tied around trees originally was to show support for troops fighting overseas, wishing them long life and safety and VICTORY in the fight. Not "bring them home". Its like the V pattern we make with our fingers--it means one of two things: victory, or a vicious insult. When an enemy archer was captured in battle, the first thing one side did was to chop off either the index or middle finger on the archer's right hand (draw hand). The "V" symbol is to show that you still have both of those fingers, and hence the insult. It was the equivalent of "f*ck you!". It has NEVER stood for peace (except possibly the "peace" after a war). #3: Protesters say we're baby killers and are targetting innocent civilians. HUGELY flawed argument. Not only are we using smart weapons (can be dropped into a pickle-barrel from 20,000+ feet), we are using selective targeting. We also gave the civilians of Baghdad alot of time to flee--the weeks marking the escalation in tensions, and then the final 48 hour ultimatum by the United States. If bombs are about to fall on your home city, are you going to stay home? I didn't think so. You'd haul ass out of there. If any civilians die during these bombing attacks, their blood is not on the American military. It also helps that the Iraqi military places legal military targets in civilian areas. #4: We're in it for the oil. Possibly, but definitely not the primary reason. For one, we get more oil from Venezuela than the Middle East. Look at France, they stayed out of the war due to their oil interests in Iraq--http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/2757797.stm. That is from the BBC, so suck it you asses who say "its biased". Plus we are going through hybridization now, and soon oil will be phased out (hopefully). Why take oil when we won't need it? Why take away the primary source of revenue for a nation? Where all its GNP is located? That'd be incredibly retarded. #5: We're not committed to rebuilding. How come, according to Channel 7 News, that we sent out 200,000 TONS of wheat and rice for the Iraqi people last night? How come we haven't hit their power plants (despite the fact that that might bring many of their surface to air missile defenses offline, reducing the risk for Coalition planes)?
Today's events, recapped:
0550: Assholes from Tau Kappa Epsilon (Teke) woke my roommate and I up. They were walking past the windows and shouted "WAKE UP DANIELS!!!" into each and every one of them (or so it seemed). Pisses me off. 0930: Woke up (again) for math lab. It was pretty easy. 1000: Mathlab 1100: Lunch (Campus Center) 1200: Played Halo with Mike (on Legendary). Thats a hard game. 1300: Physics Conference 1400: Calculus Lecture 1600: History Lecture (did calculus homework then) I should really get to bed, good night. Thursday, March 20, 2003
Anti-war walkout tomorrow at 1130 hours. I hope they all trip into traffic***, seeing as the majority of them know jack about what they are talking about, and they only care about their own opinions, and no one elses.
***I don't mean to say I want them to die. I was using it figuratively, as in an expression. As long as they stay peaceful and don't start brawls, they can protest all they want. Just count me out. Tuesday, March 18, 2003
Alright, blogateers (sorry Chris, had to steal it from ya), here's the deal yo. Physics conference (1300 hours) has been canceled (found out yesterday), which means I got to sleep in until NOON!!! Calc 4 (just finished up vectors in 3-space) is at 1400 hours, and History is at 1600 hours (finally got into the 1920s...yet the course covers 1920-Present...strange...).
Its such a nice day. I will beat the hell out of Jon if he refuses to go running with me today (bastard...Generals is better than running?!?). Last time we ran he convinced me to attack the biggest hill in Worcester...BIG mistake...and one I'm NEVER going to repeat (seeing that I haven't truly ran in about six months due to ankle and hip injuries incurred from basketball and X-Country training, respectively). I'd say its at least 60 degress F out (sorry, no conversions for you metric folk today). Figure on running at 1715 or 1730 hours. Run for about 20-30 minutes (only two miles...gotta start low, work your way up...), then lift for about another 30 minutes. Eat supper down at Founders (stupid daka will be closed by then). After that, shower (of course), finish up any homework, go play pool for an hour, and then maybe play some D&D (if they ever find me, of course :p). Only one class tomorrow (physics lecture)! SWEET. I pay for that on Thursday, though (calc lab at 1000 hours, physics conference at 1300 hours, calc at 1400 hours, and history at 1600 hours).
In retrospect, I'm very glad that I am not Bam Margera's father. If I were, that little f*ck would get the sh*t beaten out of him on a daily basis for all the crap he pulls. He'd wish he were dead, and he's never pull that stupid jackass shit ever again.
I only hope he wins a Darwin Award.
Housing selection night...our highest number was 13 (of 698). We grabbed a 5 person apartment in Ellsworth/Fuller (well, technically Fuller).
Calculus homework was a *$%*(# tonight. Good night. Sunday, March 16, 2003
Alright, here's the top secret military update. If this gets spread around, you will find a black van in front of your house. Be VERY afraid. From 1800 to about 2000, I played Starcraft with Russ and Owen. They played until 2100, but my computer kept crashing in game, so I gave it up. Then we went and bowled four games of ten pin (damn you and your fancy shmancy equipment). Then went to play pool with Russ (I swear, it was the sticks).
I was "exiled" from my room for a while, so I watched "The Sphere" (based on the book by Michael Crichton), awesome movie. A MUST SEE. Go watch it....NOW! RIGHT NOW! I MEAN NOW! Now I think I'm off to bed. Good night. Saturday, March 15, 2003
WELCOME TO BOSTON.
I really can't wait to get back home, and take the T into Boston and walk through the North End. 1230: Wakeup/Breakfast 1430: Went running, failed miserably, realized just how good my breakfast tasted 1553: Doing jack, gonna play Generals or pool soon Later on: movies/pool/Starcraft/Doing nothing (I LOVE weekends!!!) Top secret military update later. Friday, March 14, 2003
I never took that nap. Oh well. Missed opportunities. Weekend homework update: NOTHING!!! I know its Friday, but I sucked it up and did my calculus homework that is due Monday. Awesome class.
Tonight's plan: play Risk (Russ, Jon, John, Owen, you better watch out...I'm gonna kill you!) with the aforementioned people. Then play Generals with Jon, Todd, and possibly George (if we play with George, I'm making 10 nukes and nailing his base at the very end, the bastard always backstabs me). And eat cookies. Lots and lots of cookies. Tomorrow's agenda? SLEEP!!! (and LOTS of it!). Sunday's agenda? SLEEP!!! Monday's agenda? Classes, and then housing selection night (Russ, if you don't show up and didn't appoint one of us as a proxy, I'm REALLY gonna kill you). And so begins a whole new week of work, sleeplessness, and misery. See y'all on the flip side.
Alright, we had a nuke-fest last night in Generals. Three of us versus three brutal computer players. Eventually my allies turned on me (for a short while...we couldn't find any of the enemy to nuke, so they decided to nuke me, first). All my heroic hackers were killed in an artillery barrage (damn you Jon), and I got EMPed (damn you, Todd). They quickly stopped after they learned what "Massive Retaliation" means. I completely destroyed Jon's means of building nukes (he clustered his power plants close together...BOOMSKI!!!). I then destroyed his entired base defense. Todd got the crap end of the stick because I was stark raving mad--he had waited until I had retaliated against Jon before attacking. He then kept trying to pick off buildings here and there with his MiG superiority fighters. I made peace with Jon (he really couldn't afford me nuking him three more times in quick succession...he did do some big damage--I had 10 nukes to start with, now down to 3...). Jon then fired an EMP at Todd (who was caught completely off guard and by surprise), and I nuked his ENTIRE tank army (15-20 Overlord tanks, with propaganda towers and gattling cannons). We finally all made a truce (I kept all my nukes ready to fire, though, understandably). I had accidentally nuked my entire tank army earlier (due to lag, computer didn't register the click on enemy forces, and I was trying to select all my gattling tanks [40-50 of them], and realized that I just launched a nuke at them. Not a single one survived. Oh well, it was pretty damn funny.
Do I lead a boring life or what? I just got back from physics (its now 1000 hours), and its really interesting stuff. I'm going to take a 2 hour nap now, go to lunch, then study calculus and do some extra problems in the book. Thursday, March 13, 2003
Bleh. Just got back from doing calculus homework. Took from 1745 to 1940 hours...for six questions. Its interesting stuff, but incredibly difficult...or it could be my professor sucks at teaching (he's a great guy out of class, though, so I couldn't possibly say he sucks at life).
GENERALSYARGLES *twitch*
There was more bad news I forgot to tell you: my calculus professor talked for 50 minutes straight at such a speed I thought he'd pass out from lack of oxygen...evidently he has some gland or something that stores oxygen that allows him to talk for EXACTLY 50 minutes at about 6000 miles per hour (roughly 9600 kilometers per hour for you metric folk).
Ok, here's the plan: 1745 to 1900 hours: Calculus. 1900 hours to 2000 hours: Physics. That gets me through till tomorrow (and part of next week for physics). 2000 to 0200 hours: GENERALS!!!
Alrighty...there's the good news, and the bad news. Bad news: the math for physics is quite difficult (sure, its only complex numbers, but I've never used them in this way). I'm starting to get used to it, but its gonna take some practice. Good news: I actually understood about half of what was covered today in calculus lecture.
New Battle Plan: I'm thinking of trying what my friend Russ does: wake up at 0800 hours, do work and go to classes until 1700 hours. He says that after 1700 hours, he can just completely relax without worrying about ANYTHING (no homework, unfinished labs, etc.). Sure, it seems like alot of work (thats a 9 hour period of straight studying). I'm gonna try it out, see if its worth it. Who knows, it could be the greatest thing around (yes, I am one of those who will do homework late into the night, and end at about 0200 or 0300 hours, and the very occasional 0500 hours, and I'd prefer being free from 1700 to 0000 hours instead of slacking off during the day). Wednesday, March 12, 2003
Hey hey guys. Long time no see (not really). Just got back from pool (I own at pool :D). About to play some Generals (LAN with Jon, George, and Todd).
Lets recap todays events: woke up at 0830 for my physics lecture at 0900. Played pool for two hours after that, grabbed some lunch and played a game of Generals with Jon before I had to go to physics lab at 1400. The lab? A review of complex numbers (very useful when dealing with oscillations and waves), with a prelab. Prelab, I said? What prelab? Go the website they said. I did, and there was no prelab linked, or otherwise attached to the lab information and instructions. Today was the second day of hell--33 more to go until summer vacation (April 29th)!!! Tomorrow will suck. Severely. I've got 4 classes: calculus lab at 1000, physics conference at 1300 (lab due, status: finished), calculus lecture at 1400 (homework due, status: finished), and history at 1600 (which really sucks...I can't wait to be finished with my sufficiency project...only 3 more humanities after this...). Crap, just remembered I have to do the second physics homework as well for Friday. Damn...forgot to pass in the first one today. I guess I'll have to explain it...oh well... Bye. Tuesday, March 11, 2003
Finished List: calc, physics prelab (completely idiotic and stupid).
Updated To-Do List: History reading (I don't know why my professor likes the most boring book in the world...I guess I can get away with reading the topic sentences of all the paragraphs...and if you think I'm a slacker, go read "Major Problems in American History 1920-1945" edited by Colin Gordon...or ANY book in the "Major Problems in American History..." edited by Colin Gordon...I swear she's trying to make us freak out and commit suicide. Tried to play pool earlier...thwarted by pool tournament. Now I'm going to play Generals with George.
Ok, Blogger fans (well, my fans, anyways), I just got back from calculus. I like him (so far), despite everyone else saying he's the worst professor you could EVER get for calculus. Physics conference was ok, except for the fact that I just relearned about myself: I HATE TRIGONOMETRIC IDENTITIES. Other than that, the day has been good, and I've got history at 4 (whoopdeedoo...).
To do List: calc, physics prelab, reading for history. Estimated time to finish assignments: 2-3 hours if I want to do a good job (which I do, obviously). I'm going to start my calc homework now. Another fact about myself: you may think I'm a freak for this, but I LOVE calculus. Its really logical, it makes sense, and its fun to do! As long as I'm not doing proofs for it (the epsilon/delta theorum for limits, anyone?), I like it, alot. Physics is also pretty cool, so long as I don't have to do a huge amount of trig identities. Note to self: I've got to tweak my stirling engine sometime in the near future, gotta add on a couple of shims to each crankshaft to reduce the "wiggle" of the flywheel. Things to do after doing my work: play pool with Tom after supper, LAN game of Generals later, talk to Russ and Owen. Estimated time to go to bed: midnight. Monday, March 10, 2003
Its now 2200 hours, and my first class is at 1000 hours tomorrow (physics). Just got done playing (and winning) a game of Mario Party with Tom ("Why the hell do you always screw me over?"), Tiffany ("Aww...wittle Topher"), and Topher ("Luigi, you suck!"). Also grabbed a calzone from Fresh Way (cheap and good, though it doesn't rival Balducci's!). I feel like doing nothing, or maybe gloat about winning a game of Mario Party...yes...that's what I'll do...
I'd be playing a LAN game of Generals but NO!, my friend has to go visit his girlfriend. The bastard has some issues he needs to take care of. RANTRANTRANTA;LKDFQA;WEOIRAJDFNA;LDJFEKNRANT! oh well, time to go back to Tom and Mike's room and watch Indiana Jones (hopefully The Last Crusade).
Ah, the last day of vacation before classes start tomorrow...my very first class of D Term starts at 10. Here are the classes I'm taking D Term: Calculus IV, Physics (Oscillations, Waves, Vibrations, and Optics), and The Shaping of Post-1920 America. Yes, I know. I'm screwed. But hey, I've enjoyed today so far. Went to play pool (and kicked ass yet again :D) with Russ, Toph, and Ben. Tonight I'm probably going to head over to Fuller Labs to see "Jackass: The Movie" (thanks SocComm!). Its either that or waste my time playing a LAN game of Generals with Jon, Mike, George, Sneaks, and Tom. Or I could play pool with them for another 2 hours. Or I could be a loner and play Tribes II and completely waste today.
Out of context quote of the day (Russ): "Another four inches and I'd've shoved this pool cue up your ass." (this came after I hit him with the cue ball during an unsuccessful attempt at making a jump shot) Take care readers, and I hope I haven't bored you (yet).
Ok, a much needed update (not really). I just finished playing a VERY suggestive game of "Balderdash" (the makers couldn't have tried harder to make the words as suggestive as possible). It was funny as hell...thanks Toph (jock strap for a HORSE?!?), Mike, Megan, Tom, and Sneaky. I'll remember to NOT play with you ever again if I want to remain uncorrupted. That was disgusting...well, back to my boring life.
Sunday, March 09, 2003
Its 1735 and I'm currently getting my ass handed to me in a friendly game of chess (since its now 2200 hours, I can safely say that I did). Played pool from 1800 to 1900 hours (and kicked ass). Just got back from playing Super Smash Brothers (Gamecube) and Mario Party (N64) I played with Sneaky, Tom, and Topher. I have no clue what I'm going to do right now, but I'm sure I'm going to play a LAN game of Command and Conquer: Generals, along with Helm's Deep for Doom II (use the zDoom source port). I'll edit the rest of tonight (and tomorrow morning) at some point or another.
